Volunteers

Why we need volunteers

The Museum could not operate effectively without the help and support of its volunteer workforce who help us in a variety of ways. Some assist with stewarding duties, manning the Museum shop or with the restoration, maintenance and upkeep of our aircraft, cockpits and other exhibits. Those unable to help regularly have contributed by assisting us with projects or maintenance tasks, whilst others have given us the benefit of their particular expertise in such areas as: website design, publicity, production of newsletters, database entry etc. We also depend upon those volunteers who can help us keep the Museum clean and tidy.

What they do

Being a volunteer is not restricted to particular types of people, their ability, physical capabilities or the time they can contribute. We value all the contributions volunteers make to ensure that the Museum runs effectively. In return, they find it worthwhile meeting like-minded people, enjoying the camaraderie and fun of working in well-motivated teams and knowing that their efforts are worthwhile and really appreciated.

Who we need

Our greatest need is for people who can regularly contribute a morning or afternoon each week to help us ensure that visitors enjoy their visit to the Museum. We need lively and friendly people to work in our shop, meeting and greeting the public, issuing entry tickets and selling our range of merchandise, also Stewards to show visitors around, answer their questions and ensure their safety. In addition, we need people to lend a general hand on maintenance or repair work. Without this help the Museum would not be able to meet its commitment to be open to the public all year round.

What it costs to join

Volunteers who help us regularly make the small contribution of £6 per annum to pay for their insurance also tea and coffee whilst on duty. In rerun they are given automatic membership of our Supporters Club (see separate web page). Those that help on a casual basis are asked to contribute £6 per annum for insurance and hot drinks whilst on duty and may join the Supporters Club for an extra £6. (Normal membership fee is £12).

How to join

If you would like to join as a Volunteer, or need more information, please contact Trustee, Alan Howell on 01202 870689 or email him at aviation.museum@btconnect.com.
